NEW MIXTAPE: Teedra Moses "Luxurious Undergrind"

Another surprise this week was the new Teedra Moses mixtape "Luxurious Undergrind" presented by her new label Maybach Music. What did we do to deserve this? As usual Teedra doesn't disappoint with this new project. The mixtape includes 10 new tracks including the final version of "To Hell With It". I think Teedra Moses truly loves her fans, she probably holds the crown for releasing the most free music in the industry. Her sophomore album "Young Lioness" has been a long time coming and if this mixtape is any indication of how the album will be we in for an amazing album.

Download Luxurious Undergrind on her official site: http://www.teedramoses.net/

My favorite on the album: "So Special"

Common ft. Nas "Ghetto Dreams"

Com is back, and it looks like he brought hip hop back with him! I was so excited to hear the first official single off Common's upcoming album "The Dreamer,The Believer." I almost jumped out of my seat when I heard that Nas was featured on the new song, "Ghetto Dreams." This song is pure GREATNESS! Check out the song below, the album is due out in November...

No I.D. Presents: Cocaine 80s "The Pursuit"

To my surprise No I.D. has been working on what would become one of the greatest projects of the summer. Cocaine 80s "The Pursuit" was released on their official website (cocaine80s.com) last week and I've been playing it non stop ever since. The album features appearances from: No I.D., Common, Steve Wyreman, Rob Kinelski, Kevin Randolph, James Fauntleroy and Makeba. You can download the 7 song Ep for free...all you need is a twitter account.

Check out a few of my favorites below

NEW ALBUM REVIEW: Jill Scott "Light of the Sun"

I've been going back and forth on if I would review Jill's new album "Light of the Sun" because it wasn't exactly what I expected. Don't get me wrong I love to be surprised by my favorite artists but this one completely threw me off. I would like to say for the sake of all argument that Jill Scott is one of my favorite artist of all time. I'm just a little confused by the direction of the album. I play "Light of the Sun" everyday trying to get a feel for it but it has completely gone over my head. I have however heard that many people love this album and that it also debuted at #1 which is always good news.

Although I'm still trying to get into this one, I do have a few songs that I like on the album. Top of my list has to be " Rolling hills" (listen below). The lyrics are very creative, which can always be expected from a great writer like Jill Scott.

I think that sometimes my expectations of an artist of Jill's caliber tend to get a little high which often leaves me a little disappointed with their albums. This album is certainly recommended by me because although I have mixed feelings about it, from what I hear the masses love it. So maybe it's just me?

Check out "Rolling Hills"

NEW ALBUM: Beyonce "4"

I needed to take some time to let this album sink in. I felt like I couldn't blog about anything else until I wrote something on "King B's" latest album "4" If it wasn't obvious through previous entries, I'm a HUGE Beyonce' Fan. It goes deep, all the way back to her DC3 days. I wanted to make sure that I steered clear of all bias, and really listened to the album before I wrote on it. Well after a few weeks I'm certain that this album is pretty great. I think what I love the most about the album is that Beyonce' has grown so much vocally. I was listening to "Sail on" off DC3's first album and it's amazing just to see how far my girl has come!

The for certain "High Notes" on the album are the love songs such as "1+1, Best Thing I never had, I Care, I Miss, and Rather Die Young." But as the album progresses and you get into the uptempo songs that Beyonce has become known for, (especially from her Destiny's Child days) you will see that this album is almost perfect. A few favorites are "Love on Top, Countdown and of course End of Time." Surprisingly, many people including stans were a little un certain of her first single "Girls" which is unfortunately reflective on the charts. I'm still confused about that but as a good friend pointed out to me, "Girls is Beyonce's Niche and if anyone should know this it should be the true Destiny's Child fans." Girls is really what sets Beyonce' apart from any other artist. People are saying she took a risk but I'd have to disagree. She has always and will always rep for the Girls of the world.

Like "Girls" one thing that surely stands out is the writing on the album. My favorite song is " I miss you" penned by up and coming writer/singer Frank Ocean. Another is "Best Thing I never had" co written by one of the greats "Babyface." Both songs are perfectly written. I think it was the right move for Bey to use a new writer to bring that "Fresh" sound to the album along with reaching out to Babyface because you just cant go wrong with him.

I'm excited to hear that her album reached #1 for the first week and is anticipated to maintain that spot in the 2nd week as well. Although so far the album hasn't been her most successful it is definitely a project to be proud of especially because it's her first album under her own management. Keep in mind that the success of her album happened after "4" leaked nearly a month before the actually release.I think we can clearly say after "4" that Bey truly does "Run" the music world...

NEW MUSIC: Emily King "No More Room"

I feel like I've been waiting my whole life for a new Emily King album. Well the wait is almost over. I found out via her site www.emilykingmusic.com that she is releasing an EP in July! I am beyond excited. We've already heard a few songs off the EP including "Georgia," "Radio" and my personal favorite, "Down." I also found out that a track I heard a few years ago on her Myspace page "No More Room" will also be added to this project. Hopefully a few new songs will be added as well but in the meantime check out "No More Room" below and visit her site for more new music!

NEW VIDEO: Mara Hruby "The Panties"

If you've been following my blog for the last 6-8 months you know that I'm already a pretty big fan of up and coming artist Mara Hruby. On her first mixtape she covered Mos Def's "The Panties." She recently released the Jesse Boykins III directed video for the song. I really think Mos Def fans (and the man himself) would be very proud of her rendition. Love the new video...

Check it out:

KeKe Wyatt ft Kelly Price and Tweet "Mirror"

I used to love Kelly Price back in the day! I had her albums on repeat. I must admit that I also purchased KeKe Wyatt's first album when it came out as well. When I heard about her new album I was a little reluctant to check it out. That was until I found out that she featured my favorite artist TWEET on one of her songs. I immediately went to the song featuring Tweet and in my opinion the song didn't actually start until Tweet began singing. I don't know if I'm just biased (which I try really hard not to be) but the song went a little flat for me. Except for Tweets verse which was flawless.

Check it out:

ARTIST TO KNOW: Rochelle Jordan "Take Time" and "How To Feel"

I swear new Toronto soul singer Rochelle Jordan caught me on a off day when I first heard her single "How To Feel." After I heard her latest release "Take Time" it grabed me the way a song should! I absolutely love this song! I had to do a double take because I thought I was listening to Amerie in her short wearin' "Why dont we fall in love" days...I went back and listened to her first single and now I'm super excited to hear more music from this new artist. Rochelle is currently working with her producer Klash on a new ode to N.E.R.D and Radiohead titled "In Search of...Radio. Which I'm hearing is inspired by both groups. The mixtape is due out sometime in July!

Check out this new artist below:

Lloyd ft. Trey Songz and Young Jeezy "Be The One"

I see I'm a little more behind on post than I originally thought. I just came across this new song by Lloyd featuring Trey Songz and Young Jeezy titled "Be The One." This uptempo song sounds like a great summer anthem. Or my type of summer anthem, I love it...

Check it:

PREVIEW JILL SCOTT'S NEW ALBUM "LIGHT OF THE SUN!!!!"

NEW MUSIC: Skylar Grey "Dance Without You" (Teaser)

By now I'm sure you've heard the buzz surronding "Holly Brook" aka Skylar Grey especially since she's been featured on some of the biggest hits in the last year. (Diddy Dirty Money's "Coming Home and Eminem and Rihanna's "Love the way You Lie" to name a few). This up and coming singer/songwriter is VERY talented and is definately one to watch. Check out the teaser for her first official single "Dance Without
You" below and you will see just what all the buzz is about. The song is due out June 7th!

NEW VIDEO: Kid Cudi "Marijuana"

KID CUDI- MARIJUANA from Grassy Slope on Vimeo.

I see my boo whoops I mean Kid Cudi has been keeping busy! I hear he's working on everything from the new season of "How to make it In America," to a new album and I couldn't be more excited! This new video was directed by actor Shia LaBeouf where he chronicles a day in life of Mr. Rager...

NEW MUSIC: Lloyd "Tears of a Clown" (Smokey Robinson Cover)

Yes you read that right, Lloyd covered Smokey Robinsons classic "Tears of a Clown." I try to be respectful of the greats such as the Smokey's of the world so I would never post anything that I felt was well disrespectful to the original. To be honest, I'm not quite sure how I feel about this remake. I LOVE Lloyd so I thought I'd press play and give it a chance. He actually sounds really good, I can tell that he borrowed a few things from the late great MJ as well. I get a good feeling instead of a bad one when I hear this remake so that must mean something right? Well I'll let you be the judge...OH and Don't hate me!!! :-)

Check it:

NEW MUSIC: Kid Cudi "Perfect Is The Word"

One of my favs Kid Cudi released a new song via twitter yesterday titled "Perfect is the word..." I'm hearing that this song will be on the new album and was produced by Dot da Genius who also produced Cudi's hit "Day n Nite." I'm super hyped about the new album, and I Love this new song. Cudi's got the hook stuck in my head already///" I wont run away(uh,uh), cowards run away..." (So true)...

Check it:

NEW MUSIC: Beyonce " Best Thing I Never Had"

Last night at the stroke of midnight Beyonce' released her "official" second single, "Best Thing I Never Had." The song which was written by one of my favorites Babyface is a bittersweet tale of the "almost love" told by Bey's ever so strong vocals as she belts out:

"When I think of the time that I almost loved you, you showed your ass and I saw the real you. Thank God you blew it, thank God I dodged a bullet. I'm so over you so baby good lookin out... You turned out to be the best thing I never had."

The song reminds me of 90's R&B at it's best which of course means strong lyrics but we wouldnt expect anything less than that from one of the greatest writers...Babyface.

Favorite line:"Thank God I found the GOOD in Goodbye..." classic Babyface! Great lyrics.

Must listen:

Beyonce' performs 1+1 live on American Idol

This night keeps getting better and better! Beyonce' just performed her new powerful ballad "1+1" on American Idol. I swear this song sounded even better live. Check out the live video below:

Stacy Barthe feat. Frank Ocean "Without You"

Writer/Singer Stacy Barthe teamed up with a new favorite Frank Ocean for the song "Without You." Both artist have been writing for some of the top names in the industry and are now working on their own projects. I'm excited to see what they bring to the table because they are both amazing writers. Check out the song below and please excuse my late, late post! :-P

***I should also mention that this song hit the web last summer but with the recent attention to Frank Ocean the song somehow made it's way back to the net...

Beyonce' "4" Tracklisting

Below is the tracklisting for Beyonce's upcoming album "4." I don't really feel it's necessary for her to feature anyone on her album's because she definitely holds her own, but when she does I'm glad she pulls out the big guns like as Andre 3000! I cant wait to hear their collaboration along with the rest of the album. Check out the tracks below:

1. “1+1″
2. “I Care”
3. “I Miss You”

NEW MUSIC: Beyonce "1+1"

Nina Sky is that "YOU?"

There has been a slight buzz surrounding the comeback of Nina Sky for a little over year now and I must be honest I've been a little hesitant to check out their new music. That was until I came across their new song with Creep titled "YOU." The song is a completely different direction for the duo that is known for a more pop sound like their 2004 hit, "Move Ya Body." After I heard the new song "You" I went to check out their bandcamp and listened to their 2010 digital mixtape titled "The Other side." I love their new look and their sound has always been great, I'm just hoping that they find a place in today's music world. It would be nice if they ventured over into a more R&B sound because this song with Creep proves that they definitely have the right sound for it.

NEW MUSIC: Solange "Left Side Drive"

Solange tweeted a few days ago that she was going to release some new music and she did just that a few minutes later! The unreleased song "Left Side Drive" hit the site and Solange fans were yet again blessed with an untapped gem. This song is beautiful and it just makes me more anxious for her new album...Check it out below.

"You'll never get too far, and I 'll always be here waiting on the left side drive..."

NEW VIDEO:Big Boi ft. Janelle Monae' "Be Still"

Big Boi recently released the "Be Still" video featuring Janelle Monae'. The song is off Big Boi's album from last year "Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty." These two make beautiful music together push play and you'll see that this is one you wont be able to stop playing...

This song is the exact reason why I love Janelle Monae' so much!

"Be still young heart
Never will you fall apart
Be still young heart
Never will you fall apart
Be wise my dear you must, learn to just be still
Until you really really know
Show me you're right, shine your light
I wonder when will I know"

NEW MUSIC: Jill Scott ft. Anthony Hamilton "So In Love" and NEW "Shame" Video

I like Jill Scott as an artist and her body of work so much that I will probably always buy her albums even if I'm not into the singles. Although I loved the lyrics from "Shame" and I was super excited about the fact that she features Anthony Hamilton on her new song, "So in love" I still feel like both songs are going to have to grow on me. I'm still on the edge of my seat to hear the new album because one thing is for sure about Jill, her albums never disappoint. Check out the new song below:

Check out the video for "Shame"

NEW VIDEO: Jessie J. "Nobody's Perfect"

A new Alice in Wonderland inspired video for Jessie J's latest single "Nobody's Perfect" surfaced today. Out of all of the singles I've heard so far this has to be my favorite. Very clever vocal arrangements on this one...

Watch the new video below:

NEW MUSIC: Santigold ft.Karen O. "Go"

My girl Santigold is back with a new song featuring The Yeah, Yeah, Yeah's Karen O. It's been some time since we've heard from Santigold but earlier this year she signed to Roc Nation management and here we are a few months later blessed with a new single. I've had her first album on repeat since it came out in 2008!lol So I'm super excited to hear the new album because I know its going to be amazing! Check out the new song, its great!!!

NEW MUSIC: Sade ft. Jay-Z "Moon and the Sky" Remix

I knew the Sade and Jay-Z colab would be amazing when I heard they would be remixing "Moon and the Sky. " With a slight change of the beat and Jay-Z's verse at the end makes this one of the rare occasions where the remix is just as good as the original. I'm so glad that they didnt change the bittersweet melody/vibe of the song. Jay-Z's lyrics are so on point its incredible...

"I know we coulda had it all, I wasnt ready to go steady no not at all. Smoke and mirrors clouded my vision... we hit a wall couldnt see the moon and sky behind the fog....

I guess it was in the stars for me to love you from afar...."

"Girl interrupted, thinking about what wasnt, what was it...?"

NEW MUSIC: Mos Def "World Premiere"

Well, well, well look who's back! It's Mos Def! I was so excited to come across this video of Mos Def performing his new Madlib produced song "World Premiere" on the Daily Habit. There is no word on if this song is a first single off his upcoming album or even possibly a mixtape but its good to hear new material from him!

Check it out:

NEW MUSIC: Musiq Soulchild "Yes"

More new music off Musiq Soulchild's upcoming album, MusiqInTheMagiq was released today. The new song simply titled "Yes" is a little closer to the sound that we are all used to from Musiq. With the direction of the last two songs I'm really interested to see what Musiq new album has in store for us. The album will be in stores on May 3.

NEW VIDEOS: Mara Hruby "Lose Myself" and "Simply Beautiful"

If you haven't downloaded the Mara Hruby mixtape of covers "From Her Eyes" you are certainly missing out on some great music. But don't worry, once you do I will be there to say "I told you so." ;-) One of my favs on the tape was her rendition of the Roots song "Lose Myself" from their Dilla Tribute Album. She recently released her video for the song and I also came across a video for her rendition of the Al Green song "Simply Beautiful." Check out both videos below:

NEW MUSIC: Daniel Merriweather "A Little Bit Better"

Daniel Merriweather and producer Mark Ronson have teamed up again for a lovely song called "A Little Bit Better," off the Arthur soundtrack. This song has sparked my interest so much to the point that I might actually check out the soundtrack. Although I want nothing to do with the movie because I'm a huge fan of the original. I'm hoping no one dared to cover the original Arthur theme song by Christopher Cross "Best that you can do." I LOVE that song, it makes the original movie even better...

Check out the new song by Daniel Merriweather below:

Also check out the oriinal Arthur Theme song below:

NEW MUSIC: Jill Scott ft. Eve "Shame"

The first single off Jill Scott's upcoming album "Words and Sounds Vol.4: The Light Of The Sun" was released today. The new song titled "Shame" which features Eve should definitely please all Jill Scott fans. Somehow I knew Jill would release a more up tempo song for the first single because this is something that she has done and has certainly worked with past albums.I think I'm a little more impressed with the empowering lyrics than the actual song but overall I give it a thumbs up. I have no doubt that this next album will be a great addition to my Jill Scott collection. I'm trying not to get too excited because the album wont be out until summer but let me just say LET THE COUNTDOWN BEGIN!!! LOL

"I can stand on my own, I'm magnificent... I'm a queen on a throne, I'm magnificent."

NEW MUSIC: Sade "Still in Love With You"

While Sade fans have been patiently waiting for the release of the "Hits Collection," due out May 3rd the last thing we all expected was a new song. Sade released, "Still in Love with you" today which is a cover of Rock band Thin Lizzy's original. Although I thought she originally declined his request,I read today that she has collaborated with Jay-Z, so I'm interested and excited to hear that material. Check out the song below...

NEW VIDEO: Lloyd "Cupid"

Here is the official video for Lloyds second single "Cupid." The album "King of Hearts" is expected to be released on April 19.

Miguel Covers Brittany Spears' "Hold It Against Me"

Miguel can simply do no wrong in my eyes. Especially when he's covering pop songs and turning them into soul jams! For Billboards "Monday Mashups" Miguel took a crack at the Brittany Spears hit "Hold It Against Me." One word describes this cover "Perfect." He turned this song completely around into something us soul fans can jam too... In the video he talks about what he thinks Britany's reaction will be to his rendition of the song and my guess is that it will be -__- (straight face!) lol

THIS IS A MUST HEAR!!!

NEW Music: Aaries "Cover Girls"

If you happen to be a hard core fan of Musiq Soulchild you should be familiar with soul singing sisters Aaries. Or more specifically you may remember their feature on Musiq's " Settle For My Love" off his now classic debut album Aijuswanasing. Well if you are a fan of Aaries, you will be happy to know that they recently released a new mixtape titled "Cover Girls." The mixtape consists of covers of some new and old music along with the Musiq track "Settle For My Love." My favorite track would have to be their acoustic version of the Emotions song "Don't Ask My Neighbor," I love the twist at the end where they added "Nothing Even Matters" by Lauryn Hill and D'angelo. They also added their rendition of the often covered Chrisette Michelle song "All I Ever Think About Is You." I'm hoping this is leading to a full length album because I'm definitely interested in hearing more from them. Check out a few songs and download the mixtape below.

R.I.P NATE DOGG

West Coast hip hop and R&B legend Nathaniel D. Hale better known as Nate Dogg passed away at age 41 last night (March 15th). He was known for colaborating with many and providing memorable hooks for hip hop artist in the industry such as Dr.Dre, Snoop Dogg, Warren G to name a few. Not to mention being one part of hip hop crews DPG and 213 with Snoop Dogg, Kurupt, Daz and Warren G.

So many memories come back to me from listening to his music.I remember being in the 6th grade when Regulators came out and somehow buying the single on tape and listening to it non stop. Nate Dogg was a West Coast hip hop and R&B pioneer and legend and his contributions to west coast music and music period will live on forever...

Dela ft. Blu "What U Wanna"

Producer Dela teams up with Blu for this awesome track "What U Wanna." Love this, can't wait to hear more from Blu...

Bilal ft. Common "Sorrow, Tears and Blood" Unofficial Video

The song Sorrow, Tears, and Blood" is from Bilal's 2006 album, "Love For Sale" which unfortunately leaked and then shelved by his record label. The video consists of footage from an LA performance from Bial and Common...Where was I?!!! This video is awesome, 10 guess as to why I love it so much...lol

NEW MUSIC: J. Cole "Killers"

An unreleased J.Cole track titled "Killers" leaked yesterday. J.Cole tweeted that it was an older track which happen to make it's way to the internet and didnt seem to know how...The song is dope, so I will take it however it comes. ;-)

Still no word on the release of his first studio album...

Check it out..

NEW VIDEO: Steph Jones "Southern Love"

Steph Jones released a new video for his song "Southern Love." I really like this song its got a pretty cool vibe.

Check it out:

NEW MUSIC: Musiq Soulchild "Alphabet"

I really love Musiq Soulchild's collection of music and was honestly excited to hear that he had a new album in the works for this year. I realize for an artist of his calliber and being 5 albums in the game it's hard to find your place in today's music scene. Musiq Soulchild is so talented, I'm just hoping he doesn't stray too far away from his successful formula. I feel like true R&B and Soul artist struggle to survive with POP music capitalizing the industry nowadays.I'm thinking with this album he will have to present that wow factor so much to the point that people are saying "Have you heard that new Musiq Soulchild?" in order to make this one a success. I know he flies under the radar most times which is cool, but I know we are all starving for a good soul album from Musiq. I have my fingers crossed that this will be a good one to add to my Musiq Soulchild collection. Well enough of that rant...

Following the release of his first single with Swizz Beatz titled "Anything" Musiq released "Alphabet." I like this song and think it will grow on me over time. The new album, MusiqInTheMagiq is scheduled for release on May 3, 2011.

JoJo covers Jill Scott's "Whenever You're Around"

Any opportunity that I can get to post on Jill Scott and the dope picture above, I'm going to take it! lol. While we all wait (patiently of course) for JoJo to release her 3rd studio project "Jumping Trains" she has cleverly managed to distract us with a mixtape and videos. She recently posted a video of her singing an acapella version of Jill Scott's "Whenever You're Around." Reminding those that don't know, she is a definite force to be reckoned with! While no one can compare to Jill, she definitely does a great version. I love her voice and loved her last two albums, I'm hoping her new project is released sooner than later.

Check out both versions below:
