Electric Wire Hustle

A semi new group called "Electric Wire Hustle" recently caught my attention. I listened to two tracks "Waters" and "They Don't Know" and I was immediately hooked. (I love when that happens btw). I rushed myself right over to itunes and purchased their album of the same name. The band who is from Wellington, New Zealand classifies their music as soul. Some have compared their sound to that of Marvin Gaye and although I'm really into their album I'm not ready to go that far yet. They do kind of remind me of my favorite male singer, Dwele. So if you're a Dwele fan you will most def like this album. I'm hearing that they are on tour so hopefully I will catch them sometime soon...

I love a good band, Check them out:

Adele "Dont You Remember"

This is the last song from Adele's new album that I'm going to post until I hear 21in full and can produce a review. This live version of "Dont You Remember" popped up on the net last week and of course as I'm sure you guessed, I love it...(21's Official release is Jan.24th)

Check it out:

Jessie J-Next UP??

UK youtube sensation Jessie J finally caught my ear today. The net has been buzzing about her for a while now so I decided to check her out. Verdict? She seems to be a very strong vocalist. She's got style, a diva like attitude and TALENT. Her voice is beautiful. Her first single "Do it like a dude" is definitely a song that I can see doing well on the pop charts. But with Mega Pop stars like Brittany Spears and Lady Gaga coming out with albums this year I'm just not sure where that leaves Jessie J. (In my eyes there is room for everyone). Although "Do It Like a Dude" isn't exactly my cup of tea, I did manage to find a few songs that I'm into. I'm interested to see which direction her record label takes her in and what her album has to offer. I love the soulful under tone in her music. I'm hoping the album displays her true vocal ability as sometimes pop music can downplay.

Check out a few of her songs and covers:

J*DaVeY Covers Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit"

It appears that while I was living under a rock in December J*DaVeY released their recorded cover of the Nirvana classic "Smells Like Teen Spirit." This song is one of my favorite Nirvana songs and I actually really love their more mellow spin on it. I can still rock to this version. From what I hear the LA based band performs the song as an opener to all of their shows. Unfortunately I haven't' been able to catch them live but they are definitely on the list for 2011...

King Holiday Music Video

In honor of King Holiday I thought I'd post a music video inspired by Dr. King that has a special place in my heart...

In 1986 artist such as El DeBarge, Fat Boys, Full Force, Grandmaster Melle Mel, Whitney Houston, Kurtis Blow, Stacy Lattisaw, Lisa Lisa, Teena Marie, Menudo (with Ricky Martin), Stephanie Mills, New Edition, Run-D.M.C., James "J.T." Taylor, and Whodini put together a tribute song and video called "King Holiday" in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

*Interesting fact: I was actually in this video at the age of 4!!! Check out the 4:58 mark, I'll be the one in the big white glasses and striped t-shirt...My claim to fame...LOL

Colbie Caillat "Killing Me Softly"

I think we all know its pretty courageous for an act to take on a song that Roberta Flack or even Lauryn Hill have done. I had no idea just how much of a risk taker that Colbie Caillat was until I heard her cover of "Killing Me Softly." Roberta Flack's version will always be the best in most people's eyes. When Ms. Hill and the Fugees came along and put more of a hip hop spin on it many were more than impressed. I like both versions for different reasons. Roberta Flacks for the laid back ballad pure soul of it and the Fugees for the hip hop soul feel.I need both versions in my life, I cant say the same for many other songs performed by different artist. But now there's a whole different take on the song by Caillat and it's not too bad. She has a beautiful voice and I appreciate the fact that she isn't afraid to remove herself from pop music and tap into her soulful side. It's a solid effort but I will let you be the judge.

What do you think of Colbie Caillat's version of Killing me Softly?

And not to out do Colbie Caillat here are the other two versions:

Adele "Take It All"

While everyone is enjoying the new remix of Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" I've been searching the net for a preview of the new album. I am literally at the edge of my seat waiting for this album because I know it will be nothing less than great. So after coming across the track listing I found a live version of a new song called "Take it All" where Adele is flawlessly singing my every thought on love. Does this girl read my mind? This song is WOW, amazing. I cant wait to hear the final version. So if you haven't been counting that's 3 songs in a row that have all been classified by me as "GREAT." I'm hoping I can purchase the UK version when it comes out on the 24Th of this month so I can stop net stalking this album. In my search I came across a few songs that I never heard and thought I'd share...

NEW Snippets from Tweet's new album Love, Tweet

Just yesterday I heard some buzz about the "Love, Tweet" album dropping this year and I immediately dismissed it. Unfortunately for me and all of Tweets other fans we've been patiently waiting for her follow up to "It's Me Again" since news broke of a new album in 2008. Tweet is my favorite singer and I live for the two albums and for any leaked songs I can get my hands on. I'm so eager for new material I will take whatever I can get. A few days ago Tweet took to her twitter page and posted a snippets from her new album. Tweet also mentioned that her album would indeed be out this year. She also posted an acoustic version of one of my favorites Iceberg,(which is crazy because all of her songs are my favs). Also a version of "Things You Say" by her and Whitney Houston which was exciting for me to hear. Check out both videos, after "Love Again" here is more old and new Tweet to hold you over.

(Can I just also say that the music featured below sounds SO amazing, I'm so excited and it could be that I'm just emo right now but it almost brought tears to my eyes)!

Alice Smith Back With New Album "The Last After"

Grammy nominated artist Alice Smith is set to release a follow up album to "For Lovers, Dreamers and Me. I posted on one of my favorite songs in 2009 called "Dream" which I was introduced to by way of an episode of "The L-Word." I really like Alice Smith's style because her bluesy vocals are so different. She reminds me of Janelle Monae' when she first came out, so much raw talent. I'm interested to see what she has to offer on her next album. Take a listen to a few of her new songs below and just because I love it so much I also added "Dream."

Kanye West and Jay-Z "H.A.M"

The much anticipated first single, H.A.M from "Watch the Throne" the colab album by Kanye West and Jay-Z just hit the net. I love the beat which was produced by Lex Luger and I can't wait for the remix with another artist rapping over the rest of the song...This song will for sure be a hit, especially in the clubs. Can't wait for the album!

Check it out:

"It was all good just a week ago..."-Ye

"N's aint got my ladies money..." Jay-Z

Kanye West ft. John Legend- "Eyes Closed"

New music from Kanye West and John Legend hit the web, Check it out below..

"This game you could never win
Cause they love you then they hate you then they love you again
Get away from me misery
Get away from me lonliness
Get away from me fake bitches, I can’t take the phoniness"

Marsha Ambrosius "Far Away"-Video

I am a Marsha Ambrosius fan from Floetry to mixtapes and all of the features she's done since. I have been anxiously awaiting her upcoming album. Her second single from "Late Nights, Early Mornings," "Far and Away" wasn't one of my favorites when I first heard it. To be honest I was a little disappointed because I wasn't really into her 1st single (I hope she cheats on you with a basketball player) either. But now that I've taken a listen to it again while watching the creatively shot video, I'm in love with it! It is truly a great song and now has a video with a message...

Take a look:

Two Sides of the Coin (Fantasia I'm Doin' Me Vs. Keyshia Cole ft. Tank Tired of Doin' Me)

"Aint nothing more beautiful than knowing your worth..."

So often we get in a place in a relationship where it just feels like the situation is one sided. You feel the other person isn't putting you first or in some cases you don't even place. You get to the point where you inevitably move on. I believe that's the exact point of Fantasia's song "I'm Doin' Me". It's the realization that you deserve better and wont settle for anything less. But after all is said and done what happens when you get down to it and you realize that you do love yourself and want more but you love that other person too?

I think that's where the song by Keyshia Cole ft Tank titled "I'm tired of doing me" comes into play. Of course we all have that thought about going back especially when the other person realizes what they lost. Being strong enough to move on is a always a great idea in theory but no one ever said it was easy. When love is involved nothing is easy. I thought it was interesting to hear two great artist to vocally go head to head with two different sides of the same issue. To stay or to go...
